Dear Okal Rel Universe readers and fellow writing enthusiasts,

Hope you had a great summer. Myself, David and our daughter Jennifer just returned from Conversion, the Calgary science fiction con, where I did a reading and appeared on a handful of panels. The panel on the fascination of violence, which included Marie Jakkober and Candas Jane Dorsey was particularly interesting. I also met Guest of Honor Terry Brooks who proved to be a very generous fellow writer of like mind on some pet issues. His gentleman's approach to being a big success was a highlight for me. Dave Duncan coming to the reading I shared with Alison was also a happy moment. He had a print out of the cover for his next novel with him which was fun. Alison read from her story in the Space Inc. anthology brought out by Julie Czenada and I read from the first book in the Okal Rel Universe series, which was Courtesan Prince and is now renamed Courtesan Prince. Courtesan Prince is expected out in the fall of 2004.

Best of all, I spent time with Edge publisher Brian Hades and have my marching orders for bringing out the next two novels after Courtesan Prince, now renamed: Righteous Anger and Pretenders. Alison was there, as well, but is unable to team up with me for the time being so I'll be doing the next two, at least, solo, as I did for Courtesan Prince. We did get a chance to spend some time together.

Edge Science Fiction and Fantasy has a new deal with Coteau Books which means I had the pleasure of seeing Throne Price in the Coateau Books catalog for Autumn 2003, alongside Edge's most recent release, Orbital Burn, by Australian author K.A. Bedford.

We have pictures. I'll get them up on the website ... eventually. :-(
