Helping Lynda Cope with Galley Proofs
Ian Schokking took some time out of his weekend, June 15-16, 2001,
to help me (Lynda) overcome the galley proofs for Throne Price.
He read through the first three chapters, which I was obsessing about,
checking only for typos, and prescribed wine for my intermittent "rewrite-itis"
attacks. (Ian's a doctor so you have to take your medicine. :-) Somehow
we also managed to feed our respective children, turned loose to romp
about the house, arbitrate who would sleep where and defend my youngest
daughter's right to boy-free bathing privileges against repeated incursions
by Ian's rambunctious boys. It took a while, but with a little help from
my friends I think I've got it. Galley proofs are not drafts. Galley proofs
are not drafts. I got through by repeating it to myself twice an hour
while working on them, only occasionally needing to scribble out a few
"not-absolutely-necessary" deletions and re-wordings
that just slipped off the end of my red pen.
