Ameron, Poetry by Character Amel, Okal Rel Universe

introduction

Significant events in Demish culture are marked by a poetic strain which contributes to the larger continuum of an individual's life, or the life of his or her house, family or even oath. Part of any formal Demish gathering involves recital of those strains deemed significant, as they are arranged and assigned to participants by the master of ceremonies. One or more new strains representing the event, itself, may also be assigned to those entitled to recite them in the future.

This poem is a gesture of Amel's grief for Ameron, expressed through Demish ritual.

Ameron

He filled a room with his eyes,
and spoke across the centuries.
Even death had to kill him
on his terms.

commentary

Demish recital of family poetry arranged for the occasion and covering ancestral exploits is responsible for Ditatt's boredom during Princess Luthan's betrothal ceremony in the novel Throne Price, and crops up with a vengeance in the Demoran court setting in the novel Avim's Oath.
