Unborn, Poetry by Character Amel, Okal Rel Universe

introduction

During the events of Courtesan Prince, both Lady H'Reth and Liege Vrel lost unborn children sired by Amel as a consequence of Ava Delm's desperation to eliminate all proof Amel was Pureblood. The following jots, in English, probably unfinished, date from Amel's sojourn with the Purple Alliance prior to D'Ander's challenge for the the throne on his behalf. (c. Amel 16-17 years old.)

Unborn

I never knew my children
lost before their dawn
one not yet quickened
and one nearly born
whose moods I'd learned
to master with my hands.

I never touched
their mothers
with a father's love.
How can I mourn
Their legacy is my
distrust.

The world cannot be trusted
yet it must.

commentary

"Whose moods I'd learned to master" refers to Amel's habit of massaging Vretla, whom he served as a courtesan while she was pregnant with the child all believed to be Kertatt Monitum's.
