Working on Art Show
Working on prints for the art show to go up on display at the launch for Pretenders on September 30, 7-9 pm at the Prince George Public Library. David has quite a line up on the agenda, with a short presentation on fencing in the movies by Craig Bowlsby, readings, video presentations and fencing demos. To get a copy of the full picture of Brianna's sketches click the small image. Brianna Thomas did these as a warm up for the House of Em graphic novel which we still hope to get into production one day. Maybe when Part 6: Avim's Oath is finished. Got a mention in the article on a party Edge Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing is hosting at World Fantasy Convention 2008 which snagged on my google alert. Apparently Edge is throwing a party with live entertainment by The Plaid Tongued Devils. Notice of the PG book launch for Part 3: Pretenders of the ORU Saga also showed up in the "Coming Events" of the PG Citizen in print and online. There was also a great article on the launch by Teresa Mallam in PG Free Press, in the week of Sept 23 on Part 3: Pretenders and the book launch Sep 30. 'Soul Touching' Martin Simon
I connected with Martin Simons over a picture from a UCLA event I wanted to use as a jump hallucination on the ORU site. He wrote this week to say "thanks for the books" -- which he will pass along to good homes -- and to answer my questions about Burning Man. I guess I live under rocks but I'd never heard of this counter-culture phenomenon before. Martin pointed me at the TV Free Burning Man 2008 site where footage of the 2008 event is available. SF Cons are about as "out there" as I can see myself getting, at my age, unfortunately. But I think Burning Man is further evidence of our growing need to find meaning through art, to share powerful social experiences, and to explore what it means to be human. Here's an excerpt from his letter:

Mel F. shared the following with me, inspired by reading Pretenders. She's Di Mon's #1 fan.

My appreciation to Patrick Shettlesworth for his tutorial on coloring line art in Photoshop. It is going to be a big help working with sketched art. This example is a detail from a "young Horth" cartoon by Mel F. I used the tutorial to get the coloring done much faster and cleaner than the way I was doing it. One day, when I have book 6 done maybe, I'd love to put some time into turning some of Mel's "crack" cartoons or other work into a sort of cartoon sampler as a means of getting us both some experience with the comic/graphic novel media. Meanwhile I putter. :-) "Crack" art, I'm informed, is the sort which pokes fun at characters. Thanks to David Lott, the Pretenders Launch Sep 30, 2008 at the Prince George Public Library is included in the September 2008 edition of The Pulse, a Prince George digital promotions innovation masterminded by Shawn Petriw. Pretenders Has Arrived!
Cathy, a new convert who is a friend of my daughter Angela, called Courtesan Prince "Amel" and Righteous Anger "Horth". So I'm guessing she'll call Part 3: Pretenders "Di Mon". And it's here! My author's copies arrived this week! Labels: Pretenders Thursday, September 04, 2008
Came across Michelle Milburn doing art classes for the Two Rivers Gallery in Prince George, B.C. when looking at PGFreePress.com. Go Michelle! Michelle is also a member of the Norspec Writers group and did the art work for Hiding Low , my first youtube.com project featuring the Okal Rel Universe.
