Cool! Discovered the Okal Rel saga has appeared in the Internet Speculative Fiction Database. Labels: The Saga Soul touched Mark Sadler (met on Sci-fi Talk) this month and struck up a connection. He has a writing background, although he hasn't done any for years, so I am recommending him to the current editors of ORU titles: The Okal Rel Anthology 4 and Cats in the Okal Rel Universe -- if he 'takes' to the ORU of course. Below is a quote from one of his e-mails that struck a chord.

Tickles me to see ORU books showing up in different places. I don't know what it means. I don't know exactly how they got there. Maybe that's why it feels like fun seeing them "out in the world" no matter what the context. This discovery intrigued me for the sake of the remark on the page about free shipping anywhere in India! Catherine takes Amel into Protective Custody
I've been charged with character abuse, and Catherine has taken Amel into protective custody on facebook. I guess if Amel can have an "envoy period" between parts 3 and 4 of the saga, he can do a little time out with a benevolent reader in there as well. Maybe we'll get an envoy-period story out of the idea. :-) Labels: Catherine, Pretenders Tuesday, December 16, 2008
Brianna and Jennifer are working on the next installment of Mekan'stan for youtube. Here's Brianna's take on Ann slapping around a Gelack pilot in an Social Transparency Index 7 dock on SkyBlue Station in Killing Reach. Labels: Brianna Thomas, Mekan'stan Friday, December 12, 2008
Another blogger discovers the ORU.
Labels: Christina Rundle, Review Thanks to google alerts, I 'met' Lori today, at http://loricat.wordpress.com/ , a reviewer with diverse tastes and great experience. She isn't impressed so far. Sounds like she's dreading an interminable slog. :-) But a book lover has to be free to like or loath as her reactions require. And, indeed, the Okal Rel Saga has an element of soap opera about it as I think she suspects. It's an odd blend of my youthful dreams and adult experience. I'm looking forward - braced for the worst - to whether the insides appeal to her. I'll be particularly interested to know if she is able to enjoy Part 2 and Part 3 without Part 1, as I believe she is wondering herself. Labels: Review Recent e-mail from Dave Anderson (aka David-Glenn Anderson) tells me he's met Lynn Perkins, artist for Part 3: Pretenders and Part 5: Far Arena, at Philcon. I'd sent Dave a package of ORU goodies for Philcon. Labels: David Glenn Anderson, Lynn Perkins Sunday, December 07, 2008
Cecelia Tan of Circlet Press recently asked me if she could use "Bride's Story" in an Advent Calendar feature on her homepage. Honorable as ever in her dealings with authors, Cecelia paid for the privilege. I asked her to donate the honorarium to an "Amel Friendly" charity (compassionate or arts causes) and she gave it to the ASJA Writers Emergency Assistance Fund. "Bride's Story" was Amel's first appearance in print, later republished in The Erotic Fantastic, a collection of the best of Circlet Press. It's a story from his courtesan days. I have a novella in my "unfinished" drawer in which Amel runs into the character from "Bride's Story", called Matron, after she has left court on the heels of events in part 1 of the saga, The Courtesan Prince. Okal Rel Gets Around

The cover of Part 5: Far Arena is up on a catalog page at Edge! I love how artist Lynn Perkins has depicted Erien, the 'Throne Price' of Part 4, in the cover art. Lynn actually reads the books! And enjoys the series. I have high hopes of seeing her work on Part 6, as well. About 80,000 words into Part 6 and hoping to finish over the Xmas break. Labels: Far Arena, Lynn Perkins |
