Lovely BD Card from Elizabeth

Birthday card for Lynda Williams from Elizabeth Woods It was my birthday yesterday and it was pretty special. Flowers delivered to my place of work by my husband, David Lott; a fabulous (they are pretty damn cool) kindle reader from my sister Holly Williams; enthusing with Krysia Anderson about her first draft novella for the Okal Rel Legacies series; a warm family weekend; greetings from friends on facebook and some cool digital greeting cards from friends, including the one shown as a screenshot above, sent by friend and fellow writer Elizabeth Woods.

PG Exhibition Aug 2009

Elizabeth Woods and Lynda Williams at Prince George Exhibition

Had a good visit with family and friends at the Prince George Exhibition earlier this month, where anthology author Elizabeth Woods and I manned the P.G. Library's author table. Not particularly an SF crowd passing through but we had a good time hanging out. Great popcorn. And discovered super-cold ice cream chips.

PS Just back from Conversion 25 in Calgary today, but David Lott's file transfer batch job is hanging on the home network and I'm away again starting tomorrow, so pictures from Con-version will have to wait until the weekend. :-( Met some new Edge people (new to me at least), bought a sword, did two panels, and took pictures to help me remember and share.

Launch Well Wishers

Fun launch last night! Thank you one and all who attended. We'll get some pics up soon. Here's a couple missives from those who didn't make it and wanted to:

"I am flying to Miami tomorrow, and I return end of July. I will miss
another launch. And I LOVED Far Arena! Ann's pregnant!! I love Perry
D'Aur's observation about Ann's understanding of Gelack culture. Horth
negotiating trade agreements, Dorn Earth ambassador, and Amel finally
ending the past for Erien and Ranar. I loved it, loved it."
- Elizabeth Woods

"While I am quite sure that we are not able to make it today I am more than happy to help you out with any future events if at all possible ... I hope that your thing goes well today!"
- Ash Larsen (Society for Creative Anachronism)

Also heard recently from ORU reader Rémi Després-Smyth who I will be sending a review copy of Part 5: Far Arena. And will be looking at Opus 4 work this weekend. Spoke with Opus 4 editor Sheila Flesher at the launch last night and introduced her to the two PG authors attending the launch. Oh, and ran into a contact of Elizabeth's in Quiznos yesterday who saw me reading Far Arena out loud to Tegan and said "I've read that book, it was good!". Turns out he's going to be teaching math and science in PG and is a sci fi fan. New contact met last night is Tyler, a reporter who is starting up a new journal for downtown distribution...if memory serves. Also renewed my acquaintance with John Bell of CFIS's story tellers program and was delighted to have Ann Tiffany and Jacklyn Baldwin among the attendees at the launch. Not to mention Catherine's Finnish contact and the young neighbour she's been telling me about. Nicole K. won the Pan-Demish Tournament. Nathalie Mallet won the "over 20" class which I figured is sort of a like the nobleborns. The McGees (Weston and Nicole) turned out and were game about wearing capes and taking part in the tournament. Much, much thanks to the usual suspects for setup and take down! Krysia, Angela, David, Tegan, Catherine! And to Margaret Johnson of Friends of the Library.

Far Arena Feedback - Woods

Feedback from Elizabeth Woods on Part 5: Far Arena
> I am so loving Far Arena! I am at the part where they have just
> arrived on Rire. You never fail to completely enrapture me. I am
> so glad tomorrow starts my summer - I can sit and read!

Elizabeth have volunteered to help my exterminate typos in Part 6: Avim's Oath by giving it a read-through. Jennifer Lott has also helped out on this front, and editor Richard Janzen will be doing the copy-edit this summer. Not certain of the release date yet, but hoping for winter 2010.

Elizabeth Woods Re-reads Throne Price

Comments from Elizabeth Woods after Re-reading Throne Price

It is starting to happen! People who read Throne Price first and were puzzled by the density of the underbrush are coming to it after reading parts 1, 2 and 3 of the saga and feeling the same joy I have always felt when sunk into the saga. Much thanks to Elizabeth Woods for sharing her reaction with me. The iceberg below the waterline emergeth! (PS Elizabeth also got a bit of a sneak peak at Part 5: Far Arena, because she was helping me out with proofing.)
