Opus 3 Okal Rel Universe Anthology edited by Jennifer Sparling and Lynda Williams

Working on details for the launch of Part 5: Far Arena and the Opus 3anthology. So far we have the following planned:

"Lynda Williams and friends will have a friendly, drop-in launch for Part 5: Far Arena of the Okal Rel Saga and Opus 3, third anthology of stories set in the Okal Rel Universe edited by Jennifer Sparling, on July 2, 2009 at 6 p.m. All welcome to drop by, look at art show, mix and mingle in an informal atmosphere. A short program of show and tell will feature including some audience participation fencing bouts with foam swords."

Draft preview of cover for anthology 4

Sneak preview of anthology 4 cover by Richard Bartrop

Artist Richard Bartrop sent me a sneak preview of his cover-in-progress for Opus 4, the fourth Okal Rel anthology. (The goal is to have these stories through editing, contracts out and back, the art in and paid for, and the book in production with Absolute XPress by the end of the summer, with print versions available by no later than Xmas 09.) I'm sharing a slice of the draft preview here.

Hi from Christina Rundle

Email from Christina Rundle

Anthology author Christina dropped me a line on the weekend. Nice to hear from her! Wish we could get down that teleporting thing in the real world. Still owe responses to a couple other anthology authors! Panicking about Bridges on Thursday and Saturday this week! For those involved in Bridges, contact Elizabeth Woods about readings on Saturday, and Jennifer Lott about "on stage" appearances Thursday. Thanks! If you aren't certain how, call my home and ask for Jennifer.

Word from anthology author Lexie

Soon as Bridges is over, I'll pick up the pace with anthology authors: responding to questions, getting drafts reviewed, etc. The goal is to have in stories for Opus 4 and Opus 5 by the end of the summer, and to have books for Xmas. BTW the switch to titles beginning with Opus is an Edge thing do with sort order for the books. I liked First, Second, etc. myself but the gods of marketing rule . I'll be working with anthology artist Richard Bartrop on cover art (color) and interior sketches (one per story) in the fall. Meanwhile, want to share this bit of communication for an anthology author working on an interesting concept - the person who thought she was Sevolite who turns out to be commoner. Lexie's found a real world use for an ORU exhortation, too. :-)

At the moment I'm in Toronto, just across the back alley from the rail yards where five pile drivers are running 11 hours a day, five days a week, at 115 decibels. Needless to say, this interferes with my concentration, and I'm doing my writing and other creative things mostly on the weekends.

In another half hour, the bloody THUD should be done for the weekend, and I'll be able to hear myself think once more.

May the pile driver gods ignore you

--Lexie

Draft cover detail for next Okal Rel Legacies anthology

Here's a glimpse at my favorite of artist Richard Bartrop's ideas for the cover of Fourth: An Okal Rel Universe Legacy Anthology. This companion volumne for Part 4: Throne Price in the Okal Rel Saga will be edited by Shelia Flesher of Prince George. The theme she selected is how the past impacts the present: skeletons in the closet, closure, revelations, surprises and such. For current list of writers "on board" see http://www.okalrel.org/wanted.

Yippee! It's been a long resurrection spell to cast, but this weekend all seven of the Okal Rel Legacies books, which began life with the Fandom Press imprint of Windstorm Creative, are now available for purchase in e-format from Absolute XPress, an imprint of Hades Publishing in Calgary. Anthologies four and five are being worked up this summer.

BIG thank you to Justyn Perry!

Righteous Anger and Okal Rel Universe Anthology 2 launch at Sentry Box Nov 2007 So much to report about the launch at the Sentry Box in Calgary Nov 10, I haven't been able to figure out where to start, so picked my best group shot of the event. At the front are myself, Sandra Fitzpatrick and Randy McCharles on the panel. John Preet was up there too, but took this shot. I stayed with my publisher Brian Hades who came out to the event, as well. I have pictures of Brian and other interesting members of the audience, which I will dole out here and on the ORU website. It was grand. Much thanks to the Sentry Box (wish it was in Prince George, what a store!) and to Sandra, John and Randy for the big parts they played in making it happen. John Preet is editor of the 2nd anthology. Authors Randy McCharles and Sandra Fitzpatrick appear in it.

Cover art for Okal Rel Universe Anthology 2 up on publisher's site Surfed to Windstorm site to find the URL for entering the 2nd Anthology into the Broad Universe catalog and discovered the cover art for the Okal Rel Universe Anthology 2 is now up. Hurray! Time to start nagging the authors of stories in Anthology 3. To date, we have one complete first draft story from Hal which is delightful. Di Mon fans will be happy to know Hal's story features an encounter with their favorite, uptight character.

Sketch of Amel in envoy period by Krysia colorized by Lynda Williams Click the image for larger version in the gallery.

Krysia sketched this tribute to Amel at school during a break. Lynda added color and the decorative elements on Amel's vest. The multi-colored embroidery on the neck of his vest is an attempt at his braid - blue for Blue Demish, Gold for Golden, Red for Vrellish and just a dab of brown in it for Lorel. (He is about a third each Blue Demish, Golden Demish and Vrellish.) The fern on his vest is the symbol he wears while flying as Royal Envoy for Ameron. The brown fern is the symbol of House Lor'Vrel. Krysia is Amel's first big fan and the author of the story "Ladylike" in Okal Rel Anthology 2, a collection of stories written by new contributors to the Okal Rel Universe and edited by John Preet. (As of May 31 2007 that book is at the proof-reading stage.)
